Montse Jiménez Valero began working in IrsiCaixa in 2016 as a predoctoral researcher in the Cell Virology and Immunology (VIC) directed by Julià Blanco. Her research interests cover a wide spectrum of topics in the bacteriology and virology fields, including infectious diseases and patient immune response. She completed a degree in Microbiology in 2015 and an MSc in Applied Clinical Research in the Health Sciences in 2016, both at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
Since starting her university studies, she has been active in research. During an undergraduate placement with the IrsiCaixa VIC group, she worked on identifying molecular reasons for antibody neutralization in the immune response to HIV. For the practical component of her MSc, she worked on new methods for detecting and classifying HCV in the Microbiology Department of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital.
Her main goal at IrsiCaixa is to contribute to the search for solutions to the global health problem represented by HIV, in particular, by analysing inflammation markers, immunosenescence and immune activation and deactivation in patients who are HIV positive.
