Jordana Muñoz Basagoiti

Senior laboratory technician

Jordana Muñoz studied her BSc in Microbiology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Willing to pursue a career in research, she did an MSc in Clinical Research at the Universitat de Barcelona, where she studied molecular markers for the identification and phylogeny of different strains of Leishmania in Dr. Montserrat Gallego´s laboratory.

After finishing a brief collaboration in an epidemiological study of phleboviruses and flaviviruses in sand flies at the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in Madrid in 2015, she moved to England to join Prof. Julian Hiscox lab at the University of Liverpool. There she did her PhD on the study of protein-protein interactions between Ebola virus and its host and studied the effect of antivirals and non-synonymous mutations on the viral transcription and replication by using reverse genetics. She stayed for a few more months at the University of Liverpool, where she enrolled an FDA project on different animal models for the study of Ebola virus infection.

Willing to carry on with her professional career on the study of emerging human viruses, in 2020 she joined Dr. Nuria Izquierdo-Useros´ group to study repurposed drugs as potential therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2.
